A Ghanaian Superior Police Officer Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Mohammed Fuseni Suraj has been honoured by his colleagues in Sudan where his duty tour has come to an end.
He has served in Sudan for four years and won the hearts of the Paramount Chief of Dimka and the national monitors led by Brig Gen Faral Aideen.
ACP Suraj in a telephone chat with DAILY GUIDE expressed gratitude to his hosts for recognizing his contribution adding that the activities of armed elements engaged in cross border organised crimes such as cattle rustling, hijacking, kidnapping, illicit drug trafficking of cannabis constituted a major challenge to their efforts.
To date, he said, Abyei Police expected to have been established by Abyei Joint Oversight Committee could not implement its mandate because the assassination of Ngok Dinka paramount chief has not been resolved.
Another challenge, he said, is the absence of a joint administrative and criminal justice institutions and these he added make implementation of law and order very challenging.
“But through determination, collaboration and team work with Military observers, Ethiopian troops offering force protection and supported by Humanitarian agencies, UNPOL using the Community policing principles of “we ask they say we do,” managed to win the confidence of the belligerent Dinka & Missereya tribes to now co-exist harmoniously through trade and commerce, allowing access to cattle, grass and water.”
