The people of the Ellembelle District of the Western Region jubilated yesterday after the assembly members overwhelmingly voted to confirm Kwasi Bonzoh, the 2016 parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the area as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ellembelle.
Forty-two out of the 52 assembly members voted Yes, representing 80.7 percent of the total votes cast in favour of Mr. Bonzoh, popularly called ‘Bonzoh K, while 10 of them voted No.
The election was supervised by the District Electoral Commission and witnessed by the Western Regional Minister, Dr Kwaku Afriyie, the Regional First Vice Chairman of the NPP, Ndede Siah, a Regional representative on the Council of State, Alberta Cudjoe and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering after his massive endorsement, Mr Bonzoh expressed gratitude to the assembly members for the massive endorsement.
He pledged to operate an open-door administration by bringing everybody on board to ensure the total development of the district.
He urged the people in the area to continue to support him to implement all the good policies of the government to bring relief to the inhabitants.
Mr. Bonzoh pledged to work across the political divide to promote unity to facilitate the development of the district.
He called on the members of the assembly to support the development agenda of Ellembelle to improve the lives of the people.
The new DCE also thanked President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the confidence reposed in him.
He also praised the Acting Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay for mentoring in politics and helping him to become who he is today.
“Chairman Blay, may God bless you in all your endeavours,” he added.
He told the people that he would work very hard as DCE to ensure that every child in the district had access to free quality education from basic to Junior High School level.
He promised to collaborate with all stakeholders in the district to empower the people economically, adding that “But I need your support to succeed.”
Earlier, the Regional Minister, Kwaku Afriyie, appealed to the assembly members to put the past behind them and endorse the President’s nominee to bring development to all parts of the district.
It would be recalled that President Nana Addo Dankwa initially nominated Stephen Donkor for the position for the area.
However, the president’s nominee was rejected by the Assembly members in the first round of voting.
He had 11 Yes and 40 No Votes at the end of election.
The results indicated that Donkor was rejected outright and the President subsequently nominated Kwasi Bonzoh.
