Ghanaian theatre audience are promised unlimited laughter and exciting theatre package as the much-awaited ‘Tribeless’, the latest play of Ghanaian playwright, Kobina Ansah, hits the stage this weekend.
The play will open on Saturday, September 16 and will run through to Sunday, September 17 at the E.T.S Drama Studio at the University of Ghana, Legon. There will be two shows each night from 5:00pm and 8:00pm.
The four-cast play which is set in a ghetto touches on day-to-day themes such as streetism, tribalism and resilience in life. It is also described as potpourri of romance, fun, motivation, energy and comedy.
‘Tribeless’ tells the story of four ghetto friends who had one common dream despite their differences.
The four who are squatters are wound together by destiny? one tomboy of a trotro conductor, one rapper of a pickpocket, one sweet-voiced head porter and the fourth, a dancing hawker. They decide to use what they have to get what they want, thus, formed a music/dance group christened, ‘Tribeless’. Just when they are about to hit the jackpot of a competition, conflict sets in.
As to whether they will ever achieve their dreams is what theatre audience will discover for themselves this weekend.
According to the 28-year-old playwright, ‘Tribeless’ is not for everybody. “It’s for those who have a dream. It’s for the ambitious,” he stated.
Kobina Ansah, who is a columnist in The Mirror, a motivational speaker and former science teacher of the prestigious St Rose’s Senior High School, is known for giving patrons of his play more than what they bargain for.
He is known for plays like ‘This Family Is Not For Sale 1 & 2’, ‘I Want To Sue God’ and ‘My Wife-In-Law’.
