The Deputy Palestinian Ambassador to Ghana, Dr. Jubrael Alshomali has called on the United Nations (UN) to, as a matter of urgency, re-instate the sovereignty of the Palestinian State and people.
According to him, it has been 70 years since the United Nations (UN) passed resolution number 181 (29th November 1947) for the re-instatement of the Palestinian state but the resolution has not seen light of the day leading to over 7million Palestinians living in exile.
“The seemingly quiet posturing of the UN Security Council is not helping the situation, so we and the well meaning people across the world are calling on the UN to act now.”
The Ambassador made this call during the commemoration of the “International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People” held yesterday in Accra.
He explained that the Palestinian people are facing a historic transgression and oppression leaving many of them homeless.
Dr. Alshomali observed that for every long time, the people of Palestinia have been advocating for their freedom just as any other UN member states but it seems a deliberate deaf-ear has been turned to their cry, “as I speak, over six million Palestinians are under the Israeli occupation in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Arab Jerusalem.”
He lamented that the apathy of world leadership to press upon Israel to respect the laws on human rights has given them the urge to continue to imprison innocent women and children, stealing the lands and continuously uprooting olive trees that are over 4 thousand years old with impunity.
Dr. Alshomali accused Israel for not respecting any negotiation or resolution since the conflict started “that alone should tell you there is some power supporting them, America has been giving them ammunitions and at the same time, financial support over the years”.
For him, America being part of the UN Security Council, always uses its influence to protect Israel and that is not good for world peace. “America always uses its veto at the UN security Council to protect Israeli interest against our freedom.”
He therefore called on all peace loving people across the world to continue supporting the UN resolution and the international legitimacy that calls for ‘two state solution.’
“We are peaceful people so we call for peace to end the long lasting war to build a new world devoid of tears and pain”
