Ama Fosuaa
A 27-year-old woman, Ama Fosuaa, has been elected as the Women’s Organizer for the Asunafo North Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The young woman, who is also the leader of NPP Loyal Ladies Club, garnered 286 votes to beat the incumbent, Winifred Aidoo, who obtained 222 votes in the polls held on Saturday.
“When you compete with older folks as a young candidate for position in the Asunafo North Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), you are never expected to win,” she stated.
The constituency has over the years elected old women for the position, but Ama Fosuaa managed to defeat her two contenders, Mary Asare and Winifred Aidoo.
Some pundits have attributed Ama’s surprising win to her effectively mobilization of young females to support the NPP in the constituency.
The newly elected Women’s Organiser said that she would use her new position to mobilize and energize women in the constituency as part of efforts to increase the support base of the NPP.
“I want to serve with humility and I hope to use my new position to mentor young girls to pursue a variety of passions, help party members and do some good for humanity,” she said.
Meanwhile, Henry Prempeh won the constituency chairmanship position after polling 379 votes to beat Francis Agyemang Duah, who obtained 347 votes and Kingsley Barima Twum who secured 82 votes.
James Tweneboa Kodua was elected as Secretary after garnering 599 votes, while Alfred Aseidu won the Youth Organiser position with 584 votes.
The organiser post was won by Thomas Kofi Twum.
