Asantehene (L) with Stanbic Bank MD Alhassan Andani on the course
Ernest Opoku played spiritedly to rule in this year’s Stanbic-Asantehene Invitational competition in the pros event in Kumasi.
Opoku grew steadily from the start of the 36 hole competition and shot pre-tourney favourite, Vincent Torgah down with 145 gross over two days.
Torgah trailed with a 148 gross, while Stephen Glah from the Achimota Club finished third with a score of 150.
The ladies of the host club, the Royal Golf Club, gave Kumasi fans something to cheer about after they grabbed the three topmost awards to silence their counterparts from Achimota and Tema.
Steadfast, Felicity Okyei-Gyeabour won the stableford event with 66 point score beating compatriots, Vivian Dick, 63, and Mary Prempeh, 61 in a semblance of a host and win.
Barry Dzadey from Achimota won with 74 points on countback at the expense of Lawson Atiaogbe from Daaban, who also scored 74 points while Reindorf Amankwah was third on 71 points.
In the seniors division, Gambrah Sampene and Seth Bekoe Apeado were first and second respectively.
Head of Marketing and Communications for Stanbic Bank, Mawuko Afadzinu said “As a Bank, Stanbic always brings the best to our clients and sports enthusiasts, in this case, golfers and golf followers. Golf provides an excellent atmosphere for players to learn from each other. The event therefore succeeded in creating networking opportunities for all as we had fun playing the lovely game of golf.”
