The arrested suspects and their items
FOOTAGES OF the Phantom 3 drone recently purchased and launched by the Tema Regional Police Command have yielded results with the arrest of 15 suspected drug peddlers in the Tema metropolis.
The two-and-a-half-hour exercise conducted at Communities 9, Sites 2 and 5, was led by the Regional Operation Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Martin Iningan Ntelabi.
At the end of it, the police retrieved items such as sacks, 2 slabs, 1 basin, 2 boxes of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 2 bottles of local gin suspected to be laced with Indian hemp, five pairs of scissors, 3 packs of rolling paper, electronic home appliances, 4 gas cylinders, 4 shovels, 2 laptops and assorted mobile phones – all suspected to be stolen items.
It would be recalled that last Wednesday the regional police command launched the use of drones to pick intelligence and help in fighting crime.
Addressing a news conference in Tema yesterday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Nana Asomah Hinneh stated that his outfit would continue using the drone in such operations to rid Tema of criminals.
“Suspects are currently in custody undergoing screening and investigation, after which those found culpable, will be charged with the various offences committed and arraigned before court,” he said.
DCOP Nana Asomah Hinneh said the command would continue to carry out such operations on regular basis. He called on the public to volunteer timely information to help the police to combat crime in the metropolis.
Meanwhile, the suspected dry leaves have been forwarded to the crime forensic laboratory for examination.
