‘Students Loan Repayment Simple Now’

Adama Murtala

An Operations Assistant with the Students Loan Trust Fund in the Upper East Region, Adama Murtala, has asked beneficiaries to take advantage of the many re-payment outlets in the region and across the country to pay back their students loans.

According to him, but for the Fund, many students in various public and private tertiary institutions in the region would not have been able to go through their studies successfully, hence, the need for timely re-payment to enable the Fund to serve many more students.

“Today, no one can use lack of money as an excuse not to further their education to the tertiary level. Once the person meets our flexible conditions, he or she will receive the needed support to be able to acquire higher education. … but we advise that people should be sincere and commit themselves to the agreed terms of re-payment to keep the Fund running effectively.”

Mr. Adama Murtala was speaking in an interview with the DAILY GUIDE in Bolgatanga, over complaints regarding some difficulties beneficiaries encounter in their attempt to repay their student loans after school.

According to him, there are very little challenges that may arise, and those difficulties may even come from the beneficiaries and not the Trust, saying, “… we have 380 re-payment outlets across the country and re-payment can be done in four banks, GCB, NIB, GN Bank and Ecobank. These banks are everywhere in the country and payment procedure is simple and so I don’t see any difficulties in the re-payment. Beneficiaries will have to be committed to the agreed payment plans.”

Currently the Students Loan Trust Fund is operating with a 12 percent interest on the loans given to beneficiary students, which Mr. Adama described as fair and will help maintain the value of the monies given out even after years.
