young lady being carried through the flood waters in the Northern Region
A 13-year-old boy in Class Five has got drowned and is reportedly dead from the spillage of the Bagre Dam at Tampulungu, a community near Walewale in the West Mamprusi District of the Northern Region.
Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that the deceased was swimming in the White Volta River with his friend after a heavy down pour when the incident happened.
Mr. Abu Ramadan, the Deputy NADMO coordinator, who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said that the incident had been reported to the police at Walewale and the body has since been released to the family for burial.
Mr. Abu Ramadan therefore urged all those living along the banks of the Black and White Volta to move along with their valuables to higher grounds for safety.
The Sonabel Authorities of Burkina Faso, managers of the dam, through the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), informed the general public, especially  those living along the banks of the Black and White Volta that with the rising trend in the volume of water in the dam, it had become imperative that spillage of the dam be carried out.
The spillage was scheduled for the first week in September but for unforeseen circumstances, it was carried out earlier than scheduled.
The volume of water in the dam led to the Black and White Volta overflowing their banks, thereby affecting communities along the banks of the dam and farmlands.
The disaster management organization has sent a team from its Operations Department at the Headquarters to pitch camp at Walewale and Zebilla to help affected people in any rescue operations to help save the lives of those living along the banks of the rivers, who are likely to be in danger as a result of the spillage and overflow of the rivers.
