ABOUT 28 RECALCITRANT drivers in the Kumasi Metropolis have been apprehended for loading at unapproved areas.
The drivers were mainly arrested on the Bekwai Roundabout to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) roundabout stretch.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) had continually warned drivers that ply their trade in the city not to load at some illegal places.
But these drivers, who seem not to be afraid of the law, defied the assembly’s stern order.
The Chief Executive of the KMA, Osei Assibey Antwi, said 28 drivers were nabbed recently; he added that the law would sternly deal with them.
According to him, the presence of these drives at the KATH roundabout, poses a threat to other road users and pedestrians.
He said their arrest would surely serve as a deterrent to other recalcitrant drivers in the city, who are not ready to join the various driver unions.
Osei Assibey announced that the KMA had decided to team up with the police so that drivers that load at illegal places would be nabbed.
He stated that the assembly had decided to instill decency on the road networks in the city, urging drivers to do the right thing to avert being arrested.
