Tampulma, Mamprusi Appeal To Gov’t

Chiefs and people of Tampulma and Mamprusi

Tampulma and Mamprusi communities in the North Gonja District have appealed to government to allow them to be part of the Mamprugu Moaduri District of the proposed North East Region.

Early this year, during a visit to the Northern Region by the commission of inquiries, the two communities presented a petition requesting to be made part of the Mamprugu Moaduri District, saying that they were unfairly being treated, manhandled and disregarded by some surrogates of Daboya hence making their living condition extremely uncomfortable.

In 2012, the affected communities petitioned the then government for the same request but their request fell on deaf ears.

According to Mohammed Abdul-Razak, the PRO for the communities, their decision to be part of the proposed North East Region had not changed.

He stated that since the announcement of the proposed region, some surrogates of Daboya have been threatening the Tampulma and Mamprusi communities in the ‘overseas’ area of the North Gonja District against the inclusion of these communities in the Mamprugu Moaduri District of the proposed North East Region.

He added that the inclusion of their communities in the North Gonja District was not based on conquest, adding that it was their right to choose where they wanted to belong if they realize that they are not getting the necessities of life as citizens of Ghana.

Mr. Mohammed Abdul-Razak said that they had lacked peace, stability, security, education, potable drinking water, infrastructure, electricity, trade, among other things, that could improve their socio-economic well-being.

Meanwhile, the aggrieved communities have threatened not to allow for a peaceful referendum should their request be ignored and not granted.
