A student of Adisadel College (ADISCO) has been put before court for
allegedly robbing another student of his GH?5
at knifepoint.
The accused person, Prince Ethelbert, reportedly met the victim at Methodist University campus in Accra and begged for GH?5.
The victim, who is also a student, declined the request and the accused pulled a knife out of his pocket and threatened to stab him.
The victim, out of fear, opened the bag and Prince Ethelbert took GH?5 and sped off.
The complainant raised an alarm and two security officers on campus chased the accused and apprehended him.
They searched his pocket and found GH?5 note and the knife he used in robbing the victim.
The security officers handed over the accused person to the police.
He has been charged with one count of robbery to which he pleaded not guilty.
His lawyer prayed the court for bail, saying he is a student and not flight risk.
Police Inspector Samuel Ahiabor, who held the brief of Chief Inspector William K. Boateng, opposed the bail application, saying the accused would abscond and not appear for trial when granted bail.
The court, presided over by Aboagye Tandoh, asked the lawyer to provide proof that his client is indeed a student of ADISCO since he cannot take his word for it.
He subsequently adjourned the matter to today to determine the bail application.
The prosecutor told the court that the complainant travelled to the Methodist University campus on February 13, 2019 where he attends extra classes due to the double-track system.
The court heard that the complainant was walking to class when the accused approached him and initially demanded money.
He told the police that he threatened the complainant.
