ICU Youth Hold Get- Together

The Youth Wing of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union, Accra and Tema Branch have held their first ever get- together in Accra.

The party sought to promote networking and socialization among members especially the working youth in Accra and Tema regions.

Addressing the workers, the youth president of the Union, Anita Nyarko- Yirenkye, said Ghanaian youth – both the formal and informal sector – continue to play an enormous role to the development of the country in all spheres of the economy.

She said the youth wing of the ICU have worked tirelessly over the years to promote industrial harmony through dialogue and negotiations.

“It is however, regrettable that in spite of their contributions, some continue to face problems such as casualisation and working under hazardous conditions.”

Adding she said, “This does not promote their safety and safety and career progression and development.”

She therefore appealed to the Ministry Of Labour Relations and other stakeholders to put in place measures to ensure that rights of workers, especially the youth are protected and respected by employers.

Mrs Nyarko Yirenkye advised the youth to be moderate in spending during the Christmas festivities, abide by the road safety regulations while on the road to remain safe.

The general secretary of the Industrial and commercial workers Union, Solomon Kotei , commended workers especially the youth for their contribution to the development of the country.

He assured of the ICU leadership continuous effort in helping them achieve their mandate.

Present at the programme were the leadership of the ICU including Mr Morgan Ayawine, Deputy General Secretary in charge of Operations and Mr Benimah, Deputy General Secretary in charge of Administration as well as other members of the Union.
