The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is calling on the government to immediately take action to lift restrictions on public performances to save the music industry from collapsing.
This, according to MUSIGA, is to enable the music industry kickstart its process of recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic in line with many other sectors.
“MUSIGA would like to add its voice to call on the President to lift the ban on musical performances. We believe it is time for the President to consider lifting the ban to enable us work and earn incomes for our family”, MUSIGA said in a statement.
“We would like to assure His Excellency and his team of advisors that the entertainment industry will ensure that all due Covid-19 protocols are observed at our performances so that they do not become breeding grounds for Covid-19”, it added.
It indicated that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the Creative Arts Council must, as a matter of urgency, intervene for the music industry because it was dying slowly and needed assistance.
MUSIGA believes public performances by musicians would not breach the Covid-19 protocols when restrictions are lifted.
It mentioned that the government has opened many places of work as well as worship centers and thus appealed to the President Akufo-Addo to do same for musicians.
