George Mireku Duker
EMMANUEL KUTUBEBI, a businessman in Tarkwa, says George Mireku Duker, MP for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, does not have any connection with any of the factions that clashed on March 23, this year, at Bonsa.
The incident occurred near the Bonsa tollbooth, leading to the death of one Alhassan Ali.
Mr. Kutubebi alleged that he was a target in the bloody fight but managed to escape.
According to the businessman, “This unprovoked and barbaric act is purely criminal, and in an attempt to sway public attention, one Nana Amponsah, is trying to draw Mr. Duker into the case.”
Addressing a press conference in Takoradi yesterday, Mr. Kutubebi said in December last year, a tape went viral on social media and had a voice purported to be that of Nana Amponsah, who was heard planning to kill him (Kutubebi) and one Agyei Ben, also of Tarkwa.
He said he later reported the case to the police and requested for police protection, but he was told he could not be assigned a policeman to protect him.
According to him, he therefore organised a private security team to protect him, and that the team had been with him since December last year till date.
He said on that fateful day, he was returning from his fuel farm, close to the Bonsa Police barrier with his security team towards Tarkwa.
“On reaching the Bonsa tollbooth, which is about 100 metres away from the police barrier, a group of men, numbering about five in a white Toyota Corolla saloon car, crossed my Land Cruiser vehicle.
“The Toyota Corolla had the registration number GM 8700-13, and the group was led by one Awal Mohammed, alias Apakalo, who is known to be the leader of Nana Amponsah’s security team,” he asserted.
He continued, “The group tried to cross my Land Cruiser vehicle but I manoeuvred and escaped, but my security team was unlucky as they were blocked and attacked with cutlasses and guns, which led to the death of Alhassan Ali.”
He said after their operation, the group drove to Wassa Agora where they boarded a trotro vehicle and pointed a gun at the driver to drive them away because the tyres of their Toyota Corolla got bust.
Kutubebi said, after the incident, Nana Amponsah is making several attempts to draw the Tarkwa MP, Mr. Duker, into the case in an attempt to politicise the issue and escape punishment.
“I must state emphatically that none of my security team members have any connection with Mr. Duker, who is also a Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.
“If anybody has evidence of any of my men having any association with the MP, the person can bring it forward to dispute what I am saying,” he pointed out.
Mr. Kutubebi appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to look into the matter and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.
