A tragic road accident near China Mall on the Amasaman-Nsawam road in the Greater Accra Region has resulted in multiple fatalities.
The incident occurred on Monday when a fuel haulage truck collided with a commercial bus, leading to the loss of lives of passengers.
An eyewitness provided a harrowing account of the incident.
According to the eyewitness, the tanker driver was unable to apply the brake properly, causing the collision with the commercial vehicle.
The accident occurred as the commercial driver was slowing down upon approaching a section of the road that is under construction.
Tragically, the tanker crashed into the commercial vehicle, completely destroying it. Bystanders who witnessed the accident were able to rescue victims from the bus. However, it was disheartening to discover that most of the victims were unresponsive and in critical condition.
Authorities in the Greater Accra Region have been alerted about the devastating accident, and emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene. The injured individuals have been rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention, while the deceased have been transported to the morgue for identification and preservation.
Road accidents continue to be a major concern, claiming numerous lives and causing significant injuries. Investigations into the circumstances leading to the accident are currently underway, and efforts will be made to determine the cause with the aim of preventing similar incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service and other relevant bodies are yet to make official statement on the accident as the nation mourns the loss of lives in this tragic incident.
