NPP Slams NDC Over ‘Derogatory Remarks’ Against Bawumia

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for what it describes as “troubling trend” of derogatory remarks against Presidential candidate of the party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In a statement signed by National Nasara Coordinator, Abdul Aziz Haruna Futa, the NPP expressed “deep disappointment” over comments made by Joyce Mogtari Bawa, aide to John Mahama, and Saeed Sinari, which they say “diminish the discourse” and “lack constructive purpose”.

“To refer to Dr. Bawumia as speaking ‘like a Makaranta teacher’ is not only disrespectful but also reflects a lack of understanding of the values of education and the dignity of educators in our society,” the statement reads.

The NPP also took issue with “baseless allegations” regarding Dr. Bawumia’s dietary choices, calling them “misleading” and “disrespectful”.

Dr. Bawumia, a renowned economist and scholar, has been a target of NDC criticism, with some accusing him of being “out of touch” with ordinary Ghanaians.

However, the NPP says such attacks are “unbecoming” and “lack factual basis”.

“We urge the NDC to reflect on their approach and to remember that the Ghanaian electorate deserves better,” the statement indicated.

This development comes amid a heated political campaign season, with both parties trading blows over policies and personalities.
