The Member of Parliament (MP) for Essikado-Ketan Constituency in the Western Region, Joe Ghartey, has called on all activists of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to campaign vigorously to ensure the party increases its numbers  in Parliament in the upcoming general election, to enable the NPP execute its policies and programmes.

“The NPP spirit must come back again. We will win this elections. The elections is about the truth and not insults. We will take our records against that of anybody,” Joe Ghartey added.

The former Attorney General and Minister of Justice was speaking at the campaign launch of the Essikado-Ketan Constituency of the NPP, on Saturday, at  Essikado.

The event, also saw the inauguration of the Essikado-Ketan 2024 campaign team, lead by Mr. Joe Ghartey.

The MP, who has been representing the people of Essikado-Ketan for 20 years remarked, “I have decided not to contest again, and I know Charles Bissue who is our candidate would perform better than my tenure.”

He thanked the constituents for the overwhelming support in the four decades of representing the constituents and appealed to party faithful to support Mr.  Bissue, and pray for his victory in December 7.

The MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, told the party members in the constituency not to be complacent ahead of the December 7 elections.

He stressed, “Victory is not going to come easily. In 2020, Joe Ghartey won with about 26,000 votes while the NDC candidate polled about 24,000 votes, so, please, do not be complacent. You need to be creative and re-strategise for the task ahead of the NPP.”

Mr. Agyapong, who was the guest speaker said, “There are reports of some divisions among the party executives. I urge you to remain united and work as a team for the battle ahead in December 7.”

He believed that unity was critical for victory at Essikado- Ketan, adding, “We need to work hard so that victory will be ours.

“The NDC candidate is coming back and it’s no joke, so don’t say it’s our stronghold and assume that we have already won the elections.”

He stressed, “You should not be complacent with the crowd you see here today and conclude we have won. Don’t underestimate this elections. Step up your game. Remain focused, open your doors to everybody and win for Bissue and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The journey of hard work, sacrifices has just started and it’s possible.”

Mr. Agyapong advised Charles Bissue  to be a servant leader in dealing with the party executives and people in the constituency, no matter their political affiliations, to  build  bridges.

He suggested the inclusion of women, who were critical influencers, as the party strengthened its house-to-house campaigns, with decorum, respect, without insults, and leaving no voter behind.

For his part, Charles Onuawonto Bissue reiterated the call for unity to ensure a resounding victory.

“I dare not fail. I need your support to build on the legacy of Mr. Joe Ghartey, but we need to close our ranks. If we are divided, people will not listen to our messages. I have come to serve Essikado-Ketan with humility,” he pointed out.
