Uriel Sunalem Charity Foundation in collaboration with Ethel Humanitarian Empowerment Projects has donated an amount of GH¢24,325 and some items to the National Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).

The Foundation also presented pieces of heart pillows were also presented to be given to the children after their surgeries as well as provisions for all admitted children and those at the OPD.

Founder of the Uriel Sunalem Charity Foundation, Yiranbon Nsongba Mabel, said the donation was in memory of her late son, Uriel Sunalem’s brief yet profound impact in their lives.

She said the Foundation, named after her son, Uriel, decided to make the donation in celebration of what would have been his third birthday on October 17, 2024.

“We decided to visit the National Cardiothoracic Centre to support their life-saving work to improve the health outcomes for children,” she said.

According to her, although they were fortunate enough to cover the costs of her son’s procedure, the outcome was not favorable.

However, she noted that the experience instilled in them a profound sense of purpose to help mitigate the financial burdens faced by families seeking critical medical interventions for their children.

The foundation, she said, is committed to providing ongoing support to the Cardio Unit, so, “we are praying and hoping we can provide and support the Cardio Unit annually to sponsor the surgeries of children in need as we have started”.

Director of National Cardiothoracic Centre, Dr. Kow Entsua-Mensah, showed appreciation to the Uriel Sunalem Foundation for their support.

He explained that some families are not able to fund the treatment cost due to financial instabilities and they are not covered under the health insurance scheme, so “it is our prayer that a time will come when the NHIS will be able to cover these heart diseases treatment and also the country will be able to pay for every child with heart conditions”.
