MTN Ghana Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the National Blood Service through its periodic blood donation exercises under the “MTN Ghana Saves a Life” initiative.

Launched in 2011, the initiative responds to the National Blood Service’s appeals for voluntary blood donations to address critically low blood supplies.

Acting Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, Nana Kofi Asare, emphasized the company’s dedication to community well-being through this initiative.

“Our goal for this blood donation exercise is to collect over 6,000 units of blood from 42 bleeding centers nationwide,” Mr. Asare stated. “We rely on the generosity of our donors to achieve this target and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who rely on blood donations.”

The MTN Ghana Save a Life initiative has been instrumental in promoting voluntary blood donation and helping to address Ghana’s blood supply challenges. Mr. Asare indicated that with this renewed commitment, the telecommunication company will continue to demonstrate its corporate social responsibility and dedication to supporting the well-being of Ghanaians.

CEO of the National Blood Service, Dr. Shirley Owusu Ofori, congratulated MTN Ghana Foundation for organising a successful nationwide blood donation exercise.

“Today, over 40 donation sites across all 16 regions of Ghana collected blood to support the nation’s blood bank. The MTN “Save a Life” project has fostered a strong partnership between MTN Ghana Foundation, the blood Service, and various hospitals and blood centers.

She said this collaboration has mobilized voluntary and paid donations, saving countless lives while emphasising that the initiative helps combat the menace of commercial blood donations, which are often unsafe.

“Your efforts are contributing to a safer and more reliable blood supply,” she said. “What began as a small initiative has grown into a national event on our calendar.”
