Cwesi Oteng
Gospel musician, Cwesi Oteng, has thrown his support behind NPP presidential hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as a leader capable of healing Ghana’s political and social divides.
Speaking on Shobiz TV, the singer said Ghana is at a crossroads and needs a leader who can rise above tribal and religious politics. He argued that Bawumia’s candidacy has already sparked important conversations about unity.
“I’m supporting Dr. Bawumia. Yes, at this stage, I’m supporting him for a reason. I think that he would be like an object of healing for our country because his presence has brought religious conversations, tribal conversations. That is the person God uses, people who have tribal complications, religious complications,” Oteng said.
He insisted that Dr. Bawumia’s background — often the subject of public debate — should be seen as a strength, not a weakness, pointing out that history shows that leaders who face opposition from all sides often emerge as unifiers.
Cwesi Oteng also urged Ghanaians not to waste the opportunity Dr. Bawumia presents, referencing a speech the former Vice President delivered when filing his nomination. According to him, the message showed clarity, preparedness and ideas strong enough to win broad support.
“What impressed me most is his focus on ideas and preparedness rather than attacks. Let’s be smart people and let’s use this person to heal our divides. We must value preparedness over personal sentiments of religion,” he said.
The gospel singer emphasised that Ghana’s progress depends on moving beyond religious and ethnic divisions, urging voters to focus on unity and development.
