The Ghana National Catholic Youth Council (GHANCYC) has elected new executives for the new two administrative year.
The election formed part of the 49th Annual General Council Meeting (AGCM) of GHANCYC, which was held at the Tamale Archdiocesan Pastoral Formation Centre.
The newly elected executives are Chairperson Matthew Adda from Navrongo-Bolgatanga of the Tamale Province; Vice Chairman Asamoah Twumasi Vondee from Goaso Diocese of the Kumasi Province; and Treasurer Rhodaline To-Egame Anaba from Accra Archdiocese of the Accra Province.
They will be supported by the National Youth Chaplain, Rev. Fr. James Bour-Mensah and the General Secretary, Gerald Ekow Woode whose positions are by appointment by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference.
The newly-elected Chairperson of the Ghana National Catholic Youth Council (GHANCYC), Mr. Matthew Adda, has assured the Catholic youth of Ghana of maximum unity and collaboration in steering the affairs of the Council.
Mr. Adda emphasised the importance of teamwork among the new executives and appealed to the outgone leadership to continue offering guidance and support.
“We are one family in Christ, and together as youth leaders, we shall work hand in hand for the growth of GHANCYC and the mission of the Church. We humbly ask our predecessors to always open their doors to us,” he stated.
The new executives pledged to harness the diverse gifts, knowledge, and ideas of all members, chaplains, and stakeholders, stressing that this collective effort will ensure that GHANCYC grows stronger and more effective in fulfilling its mandate, adding, “With your continued support, GHANCYC will advance its mission of nurturing faith-filled, responsible, and transformative young Catholics who will contribute positively to the Church and society.”
This year’s AGCM was under the theme, “Jubilee Year: A Time to Proclaim Christ, Hope for the Church and Ghana.”
The GHANCYC AGCM brought together delegates from the various Dioceses and Vicariate to brainstorm on the prospect and issues affecting the Catholic youth in the country.
The Ghana National Catholic Youth Council (GHANCYC) is a unit under the Department of Pastoral Ministry and Evangelisation of the National Catholic Secretariat. GHANCYC was established by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference in 1974 with the mandate to train, coordinate, evaluate, report and serve as the official mouthpiece of the Ghanaian Catholic youth at the national level.
GHANCYC also has the mandate to ensure total formation and growth of the Catholic youth and the Church.
Bishop Alphonse Asiedu, SVD, Episcopal Co-Chair of the Youth and the Laity, urged the newly elected executives to allow God to use them for the greater growth of GHANCYC.
