Harry Kane
Harry Kane scored twice to reach a landmark 500 senior career goals as Bayern Munich strengthened their grip on top spot in the Bundesliga with a commanding away win over Werder Bremen.
The England captain opened the scoring in the 22nd minute from the penalty spot — his ninth successful spot-kick of the season — after a VAR review ruled that Werder midfielder Senne Lynen had fouled youngster Lennart Karl inside the area.
Kane quickly followed up with a second goal just three minutes later, firing a precise strike from the edge of the box that clipped the post on its way in.
The brace brought the 32-year-old to 500 goals in 743 senior appearances for club and country, with 100 of those coming from penalties.
The double also took Kane’s season tally to 41 goals in all competitions, including 26 in the league, as Bayern restored a six-point cushion over Borussia Dortmund, who recorded a big win of their own against Mainz 05.
Bayern’s only setback came at the break when goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was forced off with a calf issue and replaced by Jonas Urbig.
Despite that disruption, the visitors remained in control and added a third goal in the 70th minute through Leon Goretzka, who drove a low shot into the corner after creating space on the edge of the area.
Bayern next face Eintracht Frankfurt, with the chance to stretch their lead further. Dortmund, meanwhile, travel to RB Leipzig later the same day.
Werder Bremen, sitting in the relegation play-off place, will look to recover when they take on FC St. Pauli in a crucial fixture.
