The Asokore Mampong Municipal Security Council has announced a major crackdown on rickshaw operators, popularly known as “Adedeta,” over their failure to comply with road traffic regulations.

According to the Council, the increasing disregard for traffic rules by many riders has raised serious security concerns within the municipality, prompting urgent action.

At a meeting held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, with executives of various Adedeta stations, the Council resolved to strictly enforce the law to restore order and discipline on the roads.

Beginning Wednesday, April 15, 2026, the police will commence full enforcement of all road traffic regulations, with offenders to face immediate arrest and prosecution.

The Council also directed that foreigners are not permitted to operate Adedeta within the municipality. Any foreigner found violating this directive will be arrested and prosecuted alongside the owner of the vehicle.

Additionally, only riders with the required documentation, including a valid licence and roadworthy certificate, will be allowed to operate. The Council warned that minors engaged in operating Adedeta, as well as their owners, will be prosecuted when apprehended.

To ensure passenger safety, the Council further emphasised that riders must not carry more than three passengers at a time, stressing that overloading remains a punishable offence under the law.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and Chairman of the Municipal Security Council, Ben Abdallah Alhassan, urged all operators to comply with the directive to help improve safety and order on the roads.
