Makeup artists and fashion designers were at the heart of a vibrant showcase of creativity and skill as the Arts and Skills Technology Institute (ASTI) held its 5th graduation ceremony in Accra.

The event, themed, “Skills for Jobs, Innovation, and National Development,” celebrated 124 graduates trained across a diverse range of disciplines, with beauty and fashion talents drawing particular attention for their innovation and entrepreneurial potential.

A standout group of 30 graduates from ASTI’s 5th Anniversary Scholarship Programme completed specialised training in makeup artistry technology, fashion design technology, and millinery and accessories.

Their work highlighted the growing influence of Ghana’s beauty and fashion scene, where skilled craftsmanship is increasingly shaping lifestyle trends and business opportunities.

The ceremony also recognised 45 graduates from the Ghana TVET Voucher Project and the Ghana Jobs and Skills Apprenticeship Project, who trained in garment making and cosmetology.

In addition, 49 participants graduated under the Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF) programme, gaining expertise in mechanised farming, entrepreneurship and digital marketing, and management communication.

In her address, ASTI Founder and President, Rebecca Donkor, reflected on the institute’s journey, noting its expansion from a small cohort to a growing hub for practical skills development.

She reaffirmed ASTI’s commitment to equipping young people with industry-relevant skills and called for stronger support from government and stakeholders to advance technical and vocational education.

Beyond the formalities, the ceremony underscored a broader shift in lifestyle and career aspirations, as more young people turn to skilled trades in beauty, fashion, and other sectors as viable and rewarding professions.

Industry leaders and stakeholders from various sectors attended the event, highlighting the importance of collaboration in building a skilled and competitive workforce.

ASTI has, to date, trained over 3,000 individuals across Ghana and West Africa, including participants from Nigeria and Sierra Leone, positioning itself as a key player in the region’s skills development landscape.

For the graduates, the ceremony marked not just the completion of their training, but the beginning of careers that blend creativity, innovation, and economic contribution in today’s evolving lifestyle economy.
