Unemployed Man Jailed 4 Years For Stealing Musical Equipment

A 27-year-old unemployed man, Mohammed Rafiu, has been sentenced to four years’ imprisonment by the Hohoe Circuit Court for unlawfully entering a church premises and stealing musical equipment.

The convict appeared before the court on Monday, June 8, 2026, where he pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing. The court subsequently convicted him on his own plea and sentenced him to four years in prison.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Hohoe Police Command, Inspector Felix Kwao, the incident occurred on June 5, 2026.

The statement said Rafiu was spotted near the Faith International Ministry Church carrying a sack containing various items while hurriedly attempting to hail a vehicle.

His behaviour aroused suspicion among some members of the public, who intercepted him and inspected the contents of the sack.

The inspection revealed several items belonging to the church, including an amplifier, equalizer, mixer and crossover machine.

The suspect was immediately apprehended and handed over to the Hohoe District Police Command for further investigations.

During police interrogation, Rafiu admitted to unlawfully entering the church premises and stealing the equipment, leading to his prosecution before the court.

Inspector Kwao commended the vigilance of members of the public whose swift action led to the arrest of the suspect and recovery of the stolen items.

He also urged residents to remain alert and promptly report suspicious activities and criminal conduct to the police, to aid in maintaining law and order within their communities.
