Members of AGC Ladies, executives and staff of Korle-Bu with the items
A delegation of lady golfers of the Achimota Golf Club (AGC) has donated items worth thousands of cedis to the Breast Cancer Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).
The items included three wheel chairs, three separation curtains, two finger oximeters, 10×100 disposable syringes, 10×10 toilet paper rolls, 1x50kg rice, 2x25kg rice and a cash of GH¢1,000.00.
The donation was to support the unit in taking care of its cancer patients and to create the needed awareness required to help fight breast cancer.
It is the second time the Achimota Golf Club Ladies Golfers are donating to Korle-Bu Breast Cancer Unit.
The first donation happened a decade ago when one of the senior lady golfers, who is a survivor, donated to the unit.
Over the years, the AGC has noticed that breast cancer awareness campaigns have increased; though not quite close to the Western world, hence their need to join the conversation.
As a result, the lady golfers have pledged their support to breast cancer awareness campaigns by holding a fundraising event annually in the month of October as set aside globally as the Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“We want the lives of breast cancer patients to be saved so that no Ghanaian woman would have to die from breast cancer,” one of the representatives said.
Meanwhile, Mercy Werner returned a respectable net score of 72 to pick the ultimate prize in the ladies’ Group A of the October Monthly Medal.
Unni Skogen won the ladies’ B category with a net score of 74.
Lady Captain Christine Furler commended participants for turning up in their numbers for the 18-hole event and for showing support in diverse ways towards the worthy cause.
It was Dr. Florence Dedey, the Head of the Breast Cancer Unit of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, who received the items, with support from Dr. Josephine Nsaful and Mrs. Felicia Ahiahonu, the matron.
The AGC was represented by Mrs. Esther Amedzro (President, Ghana Ladies’ Golf Union), Mrs. Christine Furler (Lady Captain, AGC), Ms. Elizabeth Aku Yabah (Vice-Lady Captain, AGC) and Kwaku Ofosuhene (Competition Secretary, AGC).
