The driving force behind Awelema Productions a Ghanaian-based production house known for co-producing the series ‘Organised Chaos’ Doreen Kumangtun, is set to bring more exciting projects to life.

Addressing claims that “the Ghana movie industry is dead,” Doreen says this deeply saddens her and prompts her to explore ways to revive its former glory.

In a recent conversation with NEWSONE, Ms. Kumangtun revealed that she is in discussions with investors about sponsoring a significant project from Navrongo.

This initiative seeks to address the long-standing question of why stories about figures like Dr Kwame Nkrumah have not been fully told.

She believes narratives about these renowned individuals are long overdue, while also emphasising that her home region, Upper East Ghana, holds equally inspiring stories waiting to be transformed into cinematic masterpieces.

Having worked under Smarttys Management and Production Ltd, Ms. Kumangtun is confident that, with the support of visionary investors, the industry can thrive and compete on a global scale.

She also announced two exciting projects lined up in Accra and Navrongo, which she believes will be life-changing and inspiring.

“These endeavours are designed to provoke thought and drive progress, contributing to the expanding culture of the continent’s entertainment and lifestyle industry,” she stated.

Ms. Kumangtun is also passionate about her philanthropic work through The Awelama Foundation, which aims to care for everyone, especially the elderly, the sick, and widows and widowers. The foundation seeks to bring hope and joy to those in need.

Doreen Kumangtun’s acting career began when she encountered Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM). Since then, her dream of gracing the screens with her acting skills has become a reality.

She started with a single scene as a ‘journalist’ in the movie ‘Double’. Following that, she auditioned for Kaakyire Kwame Appiah’s production ‘Owuo Saafoa,’ which marked the beginning of her journey in numerous films.

“What has been missing in today’s space is that back then, raw talents were scouted from the ground up, giving their all to everything they did. Today, it seems actors and actresses spring up from nowhere, receiving titles and unjustified accolades,” she observed.

“Simply put, the true definition of passion seems to have lost its value these days; however, better days are drawing nigh,” she added.
