Justice Denis Adjei assisting the Queen mother of Frafraha to cut the sod
A total of 586 criminal cases have been brought before the Adentan Magistrate Court, which was established almost a year ago, for adjudication, according to Justice Denis Adjei of the Appeals Court.
Justice Denis Adjei, who represented the Chief Justice (CJ) Her Ladyship Georgina Theodora Wood, disclosed this last Wednesday during a sod cutting ceremony for the construction of a three-storey Court complex at Adentan in the Greater Accra region.
The Justice explained that out of the 586 criminal cases, 465 and 121 were recorded in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
According to him, the increase in both criminal and civil cases indicates the high patronage of judicial services by residents in the municipality and its catchment area.
Justice Denis Adjei lauded the assembly for the execution of the project, saying that the building would house the three courts (Magistrate, Circuit and High).
“It is important to bring justice to the doorsteps of the people, as courts promote peace among factions,” he mentioned.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Adentan, Benjamin Angenu, mentioned that the building, which would be constructed on 0.48 acres of land at Frafraha, will be funded from the assembly’s Common Fund (DACF) and Internally Generated Funds (IGF) over 12-month period valued at GH¢1,308, 627.60.
He noted that the establishment of the Magistrate Court in the municipality has reduced travel time and ensured the timely prosecution of accused persons.
“The challenges associated with residents and people living in adjoining communities travelling outside the municipality for adjudication were obvious to not only the litigants but security agencies, especially the police service,” he disclosed.
He mentioned that the building would contain the courts, a banking hall, judicial offices and library, among others, adding that each floor will be disability friendly.
