The Adentan Municipal Assembly (AdMa), in collaboration with the chiefs and queen mothers from traditional councils within the municipality, has held a colourful durbar to commemorate this year’s Homowo festival.
The event which took place last Saturday at the forecourt of the assembly was attended by a number of personalities, including Yaw Buabeng, Member of Parliament (MP) for Adentan.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Nii-Noi Adumuah, in a brief remark indicated that the assembly’s intention to host the event is part of efforts to deepen relationships with the traditional authorities.
Mr Adumuah explained that it is a platform to also kick-start events leading to the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the assembly’s establishment.
“Homowo is the festival of the chiefs, queen mothers and people of the Ga community and for us as an assembly, we are duty-bound to start a process which will lead to enriching the tourism potential of the Ga traditional set-ups within our mandate,” he stated.
The Chief of Ogbojo, Obotanten Nii Torgbor Obodai II, prayed that the celebration would be sustained.
He explained that it offers the chiefs the opportunity to get to know the leaders of the assembly and share ideas on best practices.
The Chief of Adentan, Nii Sowah Okataban I, bemoaned the infiltration of foreign cultures into the Ghanaian situation.
He appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and other stakeholders to intensify the teaching of mother tongue in schools, stressing that this is the only way the country can unite as a powerful force.
