The late J.B. Danquah and the accused killers
Police prosecutors are still waiting for the advice of the Attorney General (AG) on the case involving the murder of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North in the Eastern Region, JB Danquah-Adu.
It has been almost two months since the autopsy report on the late MP was released to the court and subsequently given to the police.
The police had since told the court that they had concluded their investigation and forwarded their report to the AG’s Office and that they had been waiting for advice on the case.
But the advice which determines the next step to take in the trial appears to be the stumbling block since its absence has led to several adjournments by the court handling the committal stage.
At the last adjourned date, Detective Chief Inspector Simon Apiorsornu, who held the brief of the prosecutor – George Amega – told the court that the prosecution had made a significant effort towards receiving the advice.
He however, prayed the court to adjourn the case to allow the substantive prosecutor, who was at a programme at the French Embassy on that day, to come and tell the court the progress made.
Detective Chief Inspector Apiorsornu told the court presided over by Ms. Arit Nsemo that the prosecutor was sick and so could not make it to court.
He did not indicate when the prosecutor would be available but said that they were still waiting for the AG’s advice.
The court subsequently adjourned hearing to May 23, 2018, hoping the advice would have been ready by then.
Dr. Lawrence Edusei, the pathologist who performed the autopsy on the late MP on February 22, 2018 released the results of the test after several months of playing hide-and-seek with the court.
It is unclear what the content of the report is as it was sealed and forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
Two suspects – Daniel Asiedu aka Sexy Don Don, phone dealer and Vincent Bosso aka Junior Agogo, phone repairer – are before the court for allegedly murdering Mr JB Danquah-Adu.
