The late Ahmed Suale
The police have amended the charge sheet in the case of Daniel Owusu Koranteng, a former employee of Tiger Eye P.I. who is accused of playing a part in the murder of investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale.
Among the allegations against him is that he declined multiple police invitations and subsequently disguised his identity by using someone’s National Identification Authority card to change the registration of his SIM card.
The accused was initially charged with one count of murder, but an amended charge sheet includes a charge of abetment of crime contrary to Section 2-(1) of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
He is accused of abetting two other suspects, who are currently on the run, to murder Ahmed Suale at his home on January 16, 2019.
He is also facing a substantive charge of murder contrary to Section 46 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
Court documents indicate that the accused had sent pictures of the deceased to Kennedy Agyapong, who displayed them on Net2 TV and called for ‘retribution’ against him.
“Accused person having known the deceased’s place of abode and possible hideouts; led two other culprits currently at large to the house of the deceased where he was shot and killed,” the documents alleges.
Meanwhile, the Madina Magistrate Court presided over by Suzy Nkotey has denied a second application for bail on behalf of the accused, ruling it had no jurisdiction to grant him bail in a murder case.
The defence lawyer had prayed the court to grant him bail pending the committal proceeding, but the prosecution led by Chief Inspector Nana Afua Bamfoa Bamfo, opposed the application and urged the court to remand him.
The court turned down the application and remanded Daniel Owusu Koranteng to reappear on April 17, 2025.
Prosecuting Facts
The prosecution’s brief fact indicates that Daniel Owusu Koranteng had intimate relationship with Ahmed Suale and his family before his death.
It said tensions escalated in June 2018 when Kennedy Agyapong broadcasted images of Ahmed Suale on Net2 TV, calling for ‘retribution’ against the investigative journalist.
It said Ahmed Suale later identified the accused as the person who provided Mr. Agyapong with his photographs and confronted him through a WhatsApp chat.
“On January 16, 2019, following the publication of the deceased’s images, he was shot and killed in Madina. Investigation disclosed that, accused person having known the deceased’s place of abode and possible hideouts; led two other culprits currently at large to the house of the deceased where he was shot and killed,” the fact states.
It further indicates that call records placed the accused in Madina near the deceased’s residence; before, during and after the murder.
“Further analysis later showed that, the accused bolted from Madina to his residence in Amasaman late in the evening at about 2315 hours after the murder. Accused eventually fled to the United Kingdom somewhere in 2019 after the murder of the deceased.”
It said the accused declined multiple police invitations and subsequently disguised his identity by using someone’s National Identification Authority card to change the registration of his SIM card.
He is said to have later returned to Ghana, and intelligence led to his arrest in Amasaman on March 15, 2025.
“Accused admitted his relationship with Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, and further admitted having visited his residence. Accused again admitted having taken photographs of himself and with the deceased, but denied selling the photographs to anyone.”
It added that police investigation is ongoing to apprehend the suspects at large.
