Ahmed Suale Murder: Court Remands Suspect

Ahmed Suale

Daniel Owusu Koranteng, a 35-year-old businessman suspected of killing investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale, has been remanded into custody by a Madina Magistrate Court to reappear on April 1, 2025.

Court documents accused the suspect of selling out the deceased by revealing his photograph to former Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong in 2019, leading to his fatal shooting.

The documents further indicate that the accused had worked with the deceased at Tiger Eye PI and had had multiple interactions with Suale and his family before his death.

Ahmed Suale, a key partner to Anas Aremeyaw Anas at Tiger Eye PI, was shot three times by unidentified men on motorbikes on January 16, 2019, near his family house in Madina.

The murder occurred after he collaborated with the BBC on an investigative story exposing widespread corruption in Ghanaian football.

Six years after his death, with practically no progress made in bringing his killers to justice, Daniel Koranteng was arrested on March 15, 2025 for his alleged role in the murder.

He has been provisionally charged with one count of murder, and the court has reserved his plea as it does not have jurisdiction to take his plea in a murder case.

Brief Fact

The prosecution’s brief fact states that both Ahmed Suale and the accused were employees of Tiger Eye company, led by Anas Aremeyaw Anas, and the accused had multiple interactions with the deceased and his family before his death.

“Tensions escalated in June 2018 when Hon. Kennedy Agyapong broadcasted images of Ahmed Suale on Net2 TV, calling for retribution against the investigative journalist,” the brief fact states.

It continued that Ahmed Suale later identified the accused as the person who provided Mr. Agyapong with his photographs.

It said Ahmed Suale was later shot and killed on January 16, 2019, in Madina following the publication of his images.

The facts reveal that call records placed the accused in Madina near Suale’s residence before and at the time of the murder.

“Further analysis showed that later that same day, the accused traveled from Madina to his residence in Amasaman late in the evening at about 23:15 hours, after the murder. During the investigation, the accused declined multiple police invitations and later fled to the United Kingdom somewhere in August 2019,” it pointed out.

The facts further state that Daniel Owusu Koranteng later returned to Ghana, and intelligence led to his arrest in Amasaman on January 15, 2025.

“He admitted knowing the deceased, visiting Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, and having taken photographs with the deceased, but denied selling the photographs to anyone,” it stated.

The facts add that police investigation is ongoing to identify other suspects in the case.
