Akosua Adjepong Charged For Fraud

Akosua Adjepong

Celebrated Ghanaian musician, Akosua Adjepong, has been dragged before an Accra circuit court for allegedly defrauding one Jonas Asamoah an amount of GH¢160,000 and a Toyota RAV 4 valued at GH¢100,000 in February this year.

Akosua Adjepong, who is now a gospel musician, together with a building contractor, Frank Agyemang Badu Alias Killer Boss, was sent to court over the alleged fraud.

They are facing conspiracy to commit crime, to wit: fraudulent transaction of land charges.

The first defendant, Mr. Frank Agyemang Badu, was in court and pleaded not guilty to the two charges.

He was granted bail in the sum of GH¢160,000 with three sureties.

Madam Akosua Agyapong however, could not make it to court.

Her counsel presented the court with an excuse letter but the content of the letter was not disclosed to the public.

The facts of the case as presented by ASP Agnes Boafo are that, the complainant is a trader and lives at Bortianor, near Accra.

During the month of February, 2017, the complainant wanted a parcel of land by the roadside to display his vehicles for sale.

He contacted Akosua Adjepong who lives at Tuba, for assistance.

According to ASP Agnes Boafo, Akosua told the complainant that she had a plot of land for rent but the complainant insisted that he wanted an outright sale.

Ms Akosua Adjepong later introduced the second accused person, Frank Agyemang Badu, to the complainant as her brother who has one plot of land opposite the West Hills Mall for sale.

The complainant, after inspecting the land, expressed interest but asked for genuine documents for verification at the Lands Commission.

But Akosua Adjepong convinced the complainant that the land is genuine and as far as she was concerned, Frank Agyemang Badu is the rightful owner.

Akosu and her accomplice then took the complainant to the Lands Commission where a supposed official of the commission came out to confirm to the complainant that the land truly belongs to Frank Agyemang Badu.

The three then arrived at GH¢160,000 as the price for the land after a lengthy bargaining.

ASP Agnes Boafo told the court that the complainant made a payment of GH¢105,000 to the two and further released a Toyota RAV 4 valued at GH¢100,000 to Frank so that he could add another plot of land located behind the West Hills Mall.

After the complainant had made the payments, Akosua and Frank then furnished the complainant with land documents which were in the name of one Dora Amosi Okyere and not Frank Agyemang Badu as the complainant was made to believe.

The complainant, having made payment for the land, went to begin working on it but was confronted by one Jonathan Asante who claimed ownership of it and had the original documents.

He then tried to locate Akosua Adjepong and Agyemang Badu to retrieve her money but to no avail.

The complainant reported the case to the police and the two accused persons were arrested but granted police enquiry bail to produce Dora Amosi Okyere, the woman whose name was on the land documents.

Akosua and Frank however, failed to report to the police but the vehicle had been handed over to the police by Frank’s uncle.
