President Akufo-Addo
President Akufo-Addo will today pay a working visit to Burma Camp, hub of the country’s defence forces.
The visit was put on hold earlier after an announcement in the media about it.
During the visit, he will undertake a number of significant assignments as Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The assignments will include the commissioning of a number of projects within the General Headquarters undertaken to enhance the efficiency of the military.
The commissioning of military grade vehicles and buses is another item on the to-do list of the president.
It’s expected that the buses to be commissioned would cater for the welfare of troops of selected units within Burma Camp.
The military grade vehicles are intended to equip the military so they can live up to the standards required of them, as they defend the territorial integrity of the nation by land, air and sea.
Perhaps the most significant aspect of the visit would be the ‘all ranks durbar’ – a rare opportunity for soldiers, regardless of rank, to interact with their Commander-In-Chief and Generals.
This interactive session would enable the Commander-In-Chief to talk to troops and hear from them.
Today’s event comes on the heels of his State of the Nation Address (SONA) during which he showered plaudits on the military for wonderfully discharging its duties to the nation.
The president will talk to the officers, men and women in the colours about what he has up his sleeves as a means of boosting their morale.
Soldiers perform well when their morale is high; it’s therefore the duty of the Commander-In-Chief, the Generals and their Commanders to do all they can to raise morale among the troops.
On Friday, June 30 2017, President Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the commencement for the barracks regeneration project at Burma Camp.
The GH¢26 million project is intended to upgrade the accommodation of soldiers in fulfillment of a manifesto entry of the president; something he touted prior to his assumption of office.
These projects could be part of today’s commissioning or so.
The president is expected to address some outstanding national issues as a way of keeping the troops abreast with crucial developments in their country.
Hosting the president would, of course, be the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt Gen O.B. Akwa and the Service Chiefs of the Army, Navy and the Air Force.
As to be expected, a guard of honour befitting a Commander-In-Chief’s visit would be held on the General Headquarters’ Square.
