Ameyaw Akumfi Advises NPP To Change Campaign Strategy

Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi

As the clock ticks down to the general election, a seasoned voice within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is urging a radical shift in campaign tactics.

Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, a respected party stalwart and a member of the NPP Council of Elders, believes it’s time to trade in the glamour of large-scale rallies for the grit of grassroots campaigning.

In a statement, Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi shared his concerns about the party’s reliance on rallies, which he says often serve as mere “feel-good” events for party faithful.

“We’re not going to win elections with rallies alone,” he warned. “It’s time to get down to the nitty-gritty of grassroots campaigning.”

The professor’s prescription for success includes empowering reconciliation committees to heal factional divisions within constituencies, mobilizing polling station committees to work around the clock, and equipping regional campaign teams to provide effective oversight.

Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi further suggests that the presidential ticket, Bawumia-Napo, and parliamentary candidates should take a cue from President Kufuor’s playbook and adopt a door-to-door approach, engaging with voters in their own backyards.
