THE ASHANTI Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cleared eight people to contest in parliamentary primaries in three orphan constituencies in the region on December 2.
The constituencies are Asawase, Sekyere Afram Plains and Ejura Sekyeredumase. The party does not have sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) in the aforementioned constituencies.
All the eight people were earlier on grilled by a party vetting committee, headed by Dr. Charles Dwamena in Kumasi on Tuesday after which they were cleared to campaign for their various seats.
Three people were cleared by the vetting committee to battle for the Asawase seat and they included Hajia Zainab, Osman Yusif and Manaf Ibrahim, who is considered as a strong favourite.
Also, three people were cleared to contest for the Ejura Sekyeredumase slot and they were made up of Mohammed Amin Yakubu, Gifty Ndoma and Kingsley Nana Owusu.
On paper, three people from Sekyere Afram Plains were to face the vetting committee but only two people, including Hamidu Suleimana and George Akom showed up, and they were cleared.
Dr. Charles Dwamena, addressing the media, said the vetting committee was impressed about the conduct and performance of the eight people so they cleared them to contest.
Sounding very optimistic, he stated emphatically that the NPP would win all the orphan constituencies in the Ashanti Region during the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
