After many months of waiting for the final results, the post-mortem examination of the late artiste, Mohbad, has reportedly failed to ascertain the cause of his death.

Mohbad’s family lawyer, Wahab Shittu, revealed this during a press briefing at the coroner’s inquiry in Lagos State on Wednesday.

According to Shittu, the pathologist in charge of the autopsy informed the coroner that significant decomposition had occurred by the time the examination was performed.

“The pathologist said the body ought to have been exhumed within 12 hours after it was buried to avoid decomposition. So the summary he is saying is that the cause of death cannot be ascertained, and when you say the cause of death cannot be ascertained, it means it is suspicious, it is not clear, and there is no particular reason,” Shittu told the Press.

Shittu further explained, “He also went further to say that it may be attributed to reactions to certain drugs administered to him before he died. Again, he then qualified that to say he does not know whether it is those drugs that led to his death.” The inquest has been postponed until June 11 for further questioning of the forensic expert.

Mohbad, aged 27, died on September 12, 2023, with the circumstances surrounding his death sparking controversies on social media.

His death also led to the arrest of Naira Marley, CEO of Marlian Music (Mohbad’s former label), and controversial Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, among others.

The Lagos State Police Command had, on September 18, 2023, inaugurated a 13-man special investigation team to probe the singer’s death. The suspects were subsequently released from police custody on bail, pending trial. The singer’s body was exhumed for autopsy on September 21, 2023.
