PEACE FM Morning Show host, Kwame Sefa Kayi, has described as unfortunate the situation where three to four premature babies occupy one incubator for survival at the Brong-Ahafo Regional Hospital.

Mr. Sefa Kayi said this when his Kokrokoo Charities Foundation presented two brand new baby incubators to the hospital to help save lives of premature babies who need womb-like environment to survive.

“We did need assessment and saw where the equipment are needed most and that is why we are here to present them to the hospital,” he pointed out.

The Medical Director of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Hospital, Dr. Stephen Amponsah, described the situation as unhealthy because of the high possibility of cross micro-organism infection.

“The ideal situation is one incubator, one baby. Averagely, we receive about five referrals from the districts in addition to two we have here; so we need at least 10 new incubators to be able to cope up with the load.

Already, we have four that are functional; two old, and two new but at least we need a minimum 10 at the facility. This is the appropriate time to receive this, it will make the babies survive,” he revealed.

The foundation has so far donated 19 baby incubators to some hospitals in the country, including the Volta Regional Hospital, La General Hospital, Nsawam Government Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, among others.

“Our next donation will go to Upper East and Upper West Regions Regional Hospitals and Atiye Hospital. The foundation is aiming at providing 30 to 35 babies incubators to hospitals across the country be the end of year,” programme director of the foundation, Dennis Adu-Twum added.

Each of the machine costs $10,000.
