Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
Former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has apologised to members of the party for its abysmal performance in the 2024 general election.
Addressing some sympathisers of the NPP in London, Dr. Bawumia said the party made several mistakes which contributed to its defeat in the election.
“The NPP did a lot of work, there’s no doubt about that, but we did not get everything right. We got quite a few things wrong, and I think that, on my own behalf and on behalf of the party, I apologise to all of you for us not getting the figures right,” he said.
The former Vice President, however, stated that the NPP would perform better if given another opportunity, considering the lessons the party has learnt so far.
“I believe that, by the grace of God, if we are given another opportunity, we will get many things right, because we have learnt the lessons that will guide us forward,” he stressed.
Former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye, last month presented a report on the causes of the party’s defeat in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections to the National Executive Council of the party.
According to the General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, although the contents of the report will not be made available to the public, the party will work with it to address the challenges facing them, ahead of the 2028 general election.
Dr. Bawumia, with support from the leadership of the party, also embarked on a ‘Thank You Tour’ aimed at strengthening the party’s unity, while demonstrating a strong and united front as the party works towards winning the 2028 presidential election.
According to the flagbearer of the NPP, the ‘Thank You Tour’ will also afford the leadership of the party the opportunity to thank party delegates, supporters, and stakeholders of the party across the 16 regions of the country.
