Bawumia Apologises To Ashantis Over Uncompleted Projects

FORMER VICE President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has rendered unqualified apology to residents of Ashanti Region over some key uncompleted projects in the area.

He said the Suame Interchange and the Kumasi Central Market projects, which were started by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) but were not completed, cost the party votes.

Considering the avalanche of votes that the NPP usually get from the Ashanti Region during elections, he admitted that not completing those two important projects affected the fortunes of the party in the region.

According to him, if the NPP administration had completed those two key projects, definitely it would have helped the party to increase its votes and retain political power in 2024.

“The Suame Interchange and the Kumasi Central Market projects, if we had completed them, it would have helped us greatly to accrue more votes and possibly retain power.

“Please, people in the Ashanti Region, forgive us,” Dr. Bawumia, who was being candid, pleaded when speaking during the NPP ‘Thank You Tour’ at Bantama in Kumasi.

The NPP presidential candidate for the 2024 polls, which the party lost painfully, said the party has now learnt its lessons in a hard way and would not make mistakes in future.

“I must tell you that we have learned our lessons from the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections defeat, so we will never repeat these mistakes again when we get power,” he stated.

Sounding very confident, Dr. Bawumia stated categorically that the NPP would recapture political power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in December 2028.

He pointed out that the NDC have started their governance of the country on a bad note, adding that he doesn’t see them making any meaningful impact in political office before the next polls.

According to him, the NDC and their then flagbearer, John Mahama, relied heavily on blatant lies and fake promises to win undeserved votes during the 2024 general election.

For instance, Dr. Bawumia said the NDC campaigned that hardship was severe across the country so when they win political power, they would do everything possible to stop it.

“President John Mahama and the NDC are in government now and the hardships they preached about and promised to stop still persist. They lied to win power,” Dr. Bawumia said.

He also said the NDC’s promise to end illegal mining, popularly known as ‘galamsey’, has also turned out to be a hoax, saying that the galamsey menace has even worsened now.

Dr. Bawumia, again, noted that the NDC promised to create jobs for the youth, “but they are rather sacking workers, with NPP members being the major victims in this operation”.

He urged Ghanaians, especially those who have lost their jobs under the NDC, to remain calm, assuring them that the NPP will win the 2028 polls and restore their employment.
