Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia commissioning GCB Bank PLC Nalerigu Branch

Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has commissioned the GCB Bank PLC Nalerigu Branch in the North East Region.

The GCB Bank Nalerigu branch is the first branch in the regional capital after the creation of the six new regions in 2018 across the country.

The Vice President at the opening ceremony in Nalerigu said the opening was a historic and exciting moment for the people as it also marked the first-ever commercial bank in Nalerigu and its adjoining communities.

“With this initiative to create six new regions including the North East region we have not just expanded development but also create some sense of nationalism and inclusiveness. The six regional coordinating councils are only working to ensure development at the local level and this new GCB Bank is a direct beneficiary of the creation of the North East region.”

According to him, the new bank will offer petty traders and farmers in and around communities in Nalerigu closer access to financial inclusion and solutions, which hitherto, were far from their reach.

“This was what our government envisaged when we decided to create six more regions to decentralise and quicken the rate of development for excluded communities. It is refreshing to note that many communities in the newly created regions are having access to services which previously eluded them and also receiving their fair share of national infrastructure development.”

Dr. Bawumia, however, appealed to the management of GCB Bank to open branches in districts that do not have banks such as Chereponi to address the financial needs of the people.

The Managing Director of the GCB Bank PLC, Kofi Adomakoh, said since the establishment of GCB Bank about 69 years ago ,it has been its constant endeavor to support the economic growth of Ghana and financial inclusion by providing convenient and competitive banking products and services to all their clients including Micro and Small Enterprises, Retail Traders, Small and Marginal Farmers as well as Private and Public sector organizations.

He disclosed that the the Nalerigu Branch is GCB’s 20th branch in the northern sector and the 185th branch nationwide noting that Nalerigu has great potential and is the heartbeat of economic activities, ranging from farming to several SMEs – both formal and informal and home to several educational institutions and health facilities, as well as government departments and agencies all of which require safe and convenient banking services.

“For such great institutions and the many SMEs here, the need for banking services is enormous and GCB Bank is here to deliver. We are excited about this opportunity to partner individuals, businesses and institutions in Nareligu and communities nearby by providing access to financial services that helps them reach their financial goals and meet their banking needs.”
