Students, teachers and residents of Worawora-Zongo in the Biakoye District of the Volta Region will soon benefit from a well-constructed classroom block for the Junior High School department of the English-Arabic Basic School.

This is as a result of a 100 bags of cement donation made to the community to help them complete the project which has stalled due to lack of funds and other logistics.

The donation was made by the United Zongo for Bawumia on behalf of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the running mate of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, the Constituency Secretary of the NPP in the Biakoye Constituency, Salifu Aliwu Ibrahim, noted that the school, officially referred to as Mubarikiya Islamic School, was originally started as an Arabic school four years ago, but had now been absorbed by the Ghana Education Service.

As a result, the school which currently covers primary one to primary six runs the normal curriculum of the GES in addition to Arabic Studies.

The project, which is a community project, has classes up to primary six, with the JHS block at the foundation stage, thus leaving students to study under trees and at the mercy of the weather.

Mr Ibrahim noted that after several unfruitful appeals to the District Assembly, other government appointees and philanthropists to help construct the JHS block, he was moved to write to the Office of Dr Bawumia and the United Zongo for Bawumia for assistance.

He said to their amazement, the NPP running mate in the upcoming general election responded with the gracious gesture of 100 bags of cement.

The President of the Group, Muazu Issaka, presenting the cement to the school, noted that it was unfortunate that such a project was not receiving adequate support as it should. He was, however, hopeful that such a trend would cease under an NPP administration so as to facilitate development in the Zongo communities in Ghana.

Neglect

He lamented how Zongo communities had been neglected by successive governments, particularly the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) which receives majority of votes from Zongos in the country.

He therefore urged them to send a strong signal to the NDC government by changing their voting pattern to favour the NPP as a way of demanding what they deserved. Mr Issaka assured them that with Bawumia as the Vice President of the country after the general election, Zongo communities would receive the support, priority and development they required.

He recounted how under the Kufuor administration the Vice President, the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama, ensured that the needed support for the Zongo communities was made available, adding that it would be better with Bawumia as Vice President.

He also urged Zongo communities, particularly the youth, to strive for excellence and live good lives to change the bad image associated with Zongo communities. He also urged parents to take keen interest in the education of their children and support them adequately to be role models for the coming generation.

Receiving the cement, the Chief Imam of the area, Sheik Abdul Ganiw Shaibu, and the Sarki (Chief) Zongo, Omar Gariba, expressed gratitude to the group and Dr Bawumia for coming to their aid and assured that the bags would be put to judicious use.

They also prayed for Nana Addo and Dr Bawumia to succeed in all their endeavours, particularly in the general election.

The NPP Parliamentary Candidate of Biakoye, Lawyer Komla Onny, assured the people that under a Nana Addo and Bawumia leadership, there would be a Zongo Development Fund to transform Zongo communities.

Prior to the donation, the group paid a visit to the palace of the Worawora Chief to commiserate with the family over the chief’s death, after which they presented some items to them.
