Tomorrow is the main awards night and grand ceremony for the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) festival, 2017 edition, and there is some anxiety and excitement among stakeholders of Ghana’s music fraternity.
It will be a night of fashion and honours where the organisers, Charterhouse Productions, will reward musicians who are deemed to have worked hard during the previous year.
Competing for various categories are almost all of Ghana’s top artistes, including E.L, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Joe Mettle, Mzvee and Medikal, all competing for  the overall artiste of the year.
Sarkodie
For the Vodafone song of the year, music duo, Double, is competing with ‘Christy’, Joey B is competing with ‘U X Me’, Sarkodie is competing with ‘RNS’, Article Wan is competing with ‘Solo’, Stonebwoy is competing with ‘People Dey’, E.L is competing with ‘Kaabu Ame’, Criss Waddle is competing with ‘Bie Gya’, Kofi Kinata with ‘Confession’, VVIP with ‘Alhaji’, Nacee with ‘Yewo Nyame A Yewo Adze’ and Flowking Stone with ‘Go Low’.
The category of best new artiste of the year has Medikal, Nii Funny, Fancy Gadam, Article Wan, Feli Nuna, Ebony Reigns, Rudebwoy Ranking and Eugy.
Over the years, the categories of overall artiste(s) of the year and Vodafone song of the year have generated the most excitement but this year, the category of best new artiste of the year seems to have generated a relatively higher interest than it has done in previous years.
The VGMA has become the biggest and most significant annual entertainment event in Ghana. For over a decade and a half, it has grown into a festival of music and entertainment that has gained recognition across Africa and beyond

The crème de la crème of stakeholders from Ghana’s music industry will be attending the event tomorrow evening at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), and organisers of the VGMA (Charterhouse Ghana) have officially announced there will be performances from some 15 music artistes. The VGMA is fundamentally a popularity-based award scheme and though there is a VGMA board and an academy, the general public has the greatest say in which artiste wins a category.
The VGMA board is a panel of reputable music industry players with a wealth of deep knowledge and enviable experience in music.
