Adumasa Presby and Akropong School for the Blind have qualified to represent the Eastern Region in the National Spelling Bee Competition come February 2017.

At the Community Bee Competition held on 15th November, 2016 at Akwamu Adumasa in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region, three students – two boys and a girl – qualified to join Akropong School for the Blind in the National Competition.

The three reportedly came tops after six competitive rounds.  25 Children were selected for the Community Spelling Bee Competition and after six rounds of competitive spelling, the three students namely Narteh Sarah P3, Attara Divine Doe P4, and Ofori Prince Henry P4, qualified.

Speaking at the competition, the Chief of Akwamu Adumasa, Nana Ansah Kwao IV stressed on the importance of education in today’s global world.

He thanked the teachers and Jolly Phonics for taking active interest in the teaching and learning techniques of the students.

It would be recalled that in January this year, Oheneyere Gifty Anti (Awo Dansoa) used her birthday to appeal to friends, family, and loved ones to donate story books towards the setting up of her Awo Dansoa Reading Project.

With the motto ‘Today’s Readers are Tomorrow’s Leaders,’ the Awo Dansoa Reading Project is aimed at getting children fall in love with reading.

Using her husband’s village as a starting point, the project was launched with the construction of a library.

Country Director of Young Educators Foundation (YES), organizers of the National Spelling Bee Competition, Eugenia Techie-Menson, promised that if the project was launched and sustained, she would bring Spelling Bee to Adumasa.
