Kwame Baffoe, aka Abronye DC
THE NEW Patriotic Party in Bono Region (NPP) has petitioned the Electoral Commission (EC) to review the Banda parliamentary results because it was wrongly declared for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate.
According to NPP, the EC declared Ahmed Ibrahim of the NDC instead of the NPP’s Joe Danquah after the general election on Monday.
At a press conference yesterday in Sunyani to point out the miscalculation of figures on the pink sheet, Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe, aka Abronye DC, said because of the anomaly in the calculation of the polling stations’ results, the NPP agents did not sign the pink sheets that declared the wrong winner.
He said the NPP would challenge the results in court if the EC failed to review the results.
Explaining the figures on the pink sheets to journalists on a projector, Mr. Abronye explained that after review of the collated results, the NPP realized its candidate, Mr. Danquah, won the election with 8,246 valid votes cast over Mr. Ibrahim, who polled 8,219 valid votes cast, with a difference of 27 votes.
He maintained that Mr. Danquah was the winner of the Banda Constituency, saying “I therefore call on the EC to review Banda Parliamentary results and declare the true winner of the seat to express the will of the people who have expressed confident in President Akufo-Addo and the parliamentary candidate.
He noted that they reviewed the EC’s own copies of pink sheets made available to all parties and the party collated results of 44 polling stations in addition to the Special Voting votes, which made 45 stations, to come to that conclusion.
“Joe Danquah polled 8,246 votes as against 8,219 votes for the NDC, but was stolen for the NDC,” he said, adding and alleged that the EC officer intentionally deducted 51 votes from that of Mr. Danquah and swapped the figures.
Meanwhile hundreds of supporters of the NPP at Banda have poured onto the streets asking the EC to order the review.
