The Borteyman Police Station

Residents of the Borteyman community in the Kpone Katamanso District of Greater Accra Region celebrated a significant milestone with the opening of their first police station, aimed at reducing crime and enhancing safety in the area.

The new police station, located within the premises of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) building, was officially commissioned by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.

During the ceremony, he commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno and his team for their swift efforts to make the station operational following his personal request upon taking office.

“This station will not only serve as a hub for police operations, but also as a centre for community engagement,” Mr. Muntaka stated. “It will enable officers to respond swiftly and work closely with residents to tackle security concerns.”

The minister, who is also a resident of Borteyman, expressed his deep connection to the project, describing it as both a personal and community milestone. “This has been a project in the making for over five and a half years, and today marks a transformative moment for all of us,” he said.

Mr. Muntaka announced the donation of four motorbikes and advocated for additional infrastructural support.

He acknowledged the original landowners for their willingness to explore options for building residential units for officers, and mentioned plans to install CCTV cameras in the area.

“I’m personally taking steps to support the rental of two apartments for officers stationed here,” he added.

Mr. Muntaka urged the officers who will serve at the station to engage with residents, listen to their concerns, and uphold the dignity and professionalism that the community deserves. “Together, let us make Borteyman a model of safety and solidarity,” he said.

The Tema Regional Police Commander, DCOP Barnabas Nasumong, assured residents that the police officers stationed there would work diligently to maintain peace and harmony in the community. He urged local stakeholders to support the officers in their duties.

Benjamin Amoah, Chairman of the Borteyman Residents Association, praised the opening of the new police station. He highlighted the long-standing need for a police presence in the area, and commended efforts to expedite the project.

“We believe in model policing that makes citizens feel protected and respected,” Amoah stated, emphasising the importance of community policing built on mutual respect, transparency, and open communication.
