Alfred Obeng
The Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transport Company Limited (BOST), Alfred Obeng, has threatened to take legal action against two newspapers if they do not retract stories which suggested that he was involved in corrupt practices.
The Republic Newspaper, on Page 2 of its December 19, 2017 edition, carried a story captioned, ‘BOST MD In GH¢45m Scandal.’
On the same day and through to Thursday December 21 2017, the Ghana Palaver Newspaper, also published a similar story under the caption, ‘BOST MD In GH¢2m Corruption Scandal.’
But the MD, in a rejoinder signed by Harriet Amoah, General Counsel and Head of Legal Services for BOST, categorically denied the allegations, stating that the publications were “full of untruths about Mr Alfred Obeng.”
According to the rejoinder, if the two newspapers had contacted the company, they would have been provided with “further and better particulars concerning the matter published to enable you come out with an accurate story.”
The BOST MD therefore demanded a retraction of the stories.
He called on the newspapers to render an unqualified apology and give it the same prominence as the previous stories.
According to the rejoinder, the two newspapers have until 5pm today to retract the stories or face legal action.”
