The Atiwa East District Assembly has found a dead boy suspected to be ten years old in a mining pit at Anyinam in the Eastern Region.
The boy is alleged to have drown after school hours.
According to an eyewitness report, the uncovered mining pit has continued to claim lives while local authorities stay unconcerned adding, the galamsey operators are digging mining pit near their homes and walkways making it a death trap to residents especially kids.
“We are pleading with the government and other stakeholders to come to our aid to stop the activities of the galamsey operators”, an eyewitness bemoaned.
The Police after the report retrieved the dead body and have since deposited it at the Kibi Government hospital morgue.
The police assured the residents of their commitment to punish the culprit after their investigations.
