Buduburam Rock Blasting Claims 3 Lives, Injures Over 40

 

A devastating rock blasting incident occurred on the Buduburam stretch of the Accra-Winneba highway, resulting in three fatalities and over 40 injuries.

The tragedy struck when a construction company blasting rocks as part of roadwork caused widespread destruction.

Eyewitnesses report that the rock blast, which lasted several minutes, was conducted after halting traffic on the stretch.

The residents claim this is not the first time rocks have been blasted in the area, often damaging nearby houses.

 

Aftermath and Response

Angry residents attacked workers of the construction company, leading to the arrest of a Chinese team leader.

The injured were rushed to St. Gregory Hospital in Buduburam, where hospital administrator Mattias Ayegre-Anaba confirmed: “42 people were brought here. We’ve referred four to 37 Military Hospital and Winneba. Currently, 18 females and nine males are on admission, with two in recovery. Three were discharged, and unfortunately, three lost their lives.”

 

Concerns and Reactions

Meanwhile, the residents have expressed concerns about the frequent rock blasting, citing damage to nearby homes.
